Nominations for Municipal Election Candidates Open Monday (today)

The nomination period opens today for the offices of Mayor, Ward/Regional Councillor and School Board Trustee for the 2022 Municipal Election. Nomination forms will be accepted until Friday, August 19, 2022 at 2 p.m.

Forms are available online or you can book an appointment to pick them up from the Office of the City Clerk by visiting mississaugavotes.ca/for-candidates/become-a-candidate/ or by calling 905-615-3389.

To qualify to run for municipal council (Mayor or Ward/Regional Councillor), a candidate must meet all of the following conditions:

be a Canadian citizen
be at least 18 years old
be a resident of the City of Mississauga or the owner or tenant of property in Mississauga or the spouse of an owner or tenant of property in the city
not be prohibited under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996or otherwise by law

To qualify to run for School Board Trustee a candidate must meet all of the following conditions:

be a Canadian citizen
be at least 18 years old
be a resident in the area of jurisdiction of the board to which the nomination applies
not be prohibited under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996or otherwise by law
meet any other qualifications to vote for the school board (for example – being a Roman Catholic, or hold French language rights)

When ready, candidates have two options to file their nomination forms: electronically or in-person. Both options require candidates to:

Complete the nomination package.
Book an appointmentto meet with an Election Official either virtually or in-person and file their complete nomination package (candidates can also call 905-615-3389).
Pay the nomination fee ($200 for Mayor, $100 for Ward/Regional Councillors and $100 for School Board Trustee).
